Established in 1950, Buchanan Funeral Home continues to serve families throughout Barry and Lawrence Counties with dignity and professionalism with a history filled with tradition and warmth. In 1950, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Buchanan established Buchanan Funeral Home. In 1964, Mr. and Mrs. Glennon Holmes assumed ownership and the firm continued to grow. The business was acquired in 1980 by Mr. and Mrs. Doug Hobson and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hemphill. In October of 2006, Mr. William J. “B.J.” Goodwin, III, owner of the Ozark Funeral Homes, Inc. in McDonald County and the Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, purchased the business from Mike and Glenda Hemphill. Mr. Goodwin was instrumental in updating the funeral home to its current state, providing a comfortable setting for those in the community that have lost a loved one. In July of 2021, Jeremy and Angi Vanderbol were able to purchase the funeral home from the Goodwin Family. Jeremy has managed the funeral home since 2009 and now has the opportunity to build upon the the tradition that has been long-standing since 1950. We pledge to continue the tradition of trusted service as we look to the future, providing quality service with compassion and respect. The staff at Buchanan Funeral Home are a constant source of support and encouragement to the families we serve. We offer a full range of services, from the most traditional Church or Chapel service to a simple graveside service, to a vast array of cremation options. Personal attention is given to each family as we know that each life is unique. Our professional staff is committed to this community and to the families we serve.
